We love hearing about your experiences with Jorvik Tricycles, and how they have helped you in your day to day life. We recently spoke with Alice’s mum about the freedom she’s rediscovered after purchasing her Jorvik Tricycle.

Alice is autistic and lives with cerebral palsy, which has begun to affect her life more and more as she has got older. Those living with cerebral palsy often have mobility issues as tight, stiff and overly toned muscles can make it difficult to control movements. Up until the age of 9 Alice could walk up to 6 miles with her family on their adventurous days out. However, as she’s got older she’s found this increasingly difficult. Alice’s mum therefore began to investigate what additional support was available to help Alice in her day to day life. Having previously owned a tricycle they were aware of the benefits tricycles had to offer to those who struggled with their mobility. Alice was also keen to stay active so she could join her family days out, so investing in a new and improved tricycle seemed like the best option.

They looked into other tricycle companies, however they offered a much smaller product range, at a much higher price and had to pay extra for certain colours and tyres. Having come across Jorvik Tricycles on social media and through living locally in York, Alice’s parents booked in to visit the showroom.

‘’The sales staff were fantastic …. great service from the young lady we spoke to at the Jorvik Tricycles showroom!’’.

After seeing the tricycle in action and how it was able to fit into their family truck, they decided that a Jorvik Tricycle was best suited to what they were looking for; a compact, lightweight and good quality electric mountain tricycle. Having a mountain tricycle was particularly important as Alice was keen to be like her older brothers, who love mountain biking together. Her family were also pleased that they were able to find a more affordable option without having to compromise on the quality or sturdiness of the tricycle, Alice’s mum said ‘’everything was five star!’’

Although Alice was hesitant when first getting used to the tricycle, she soon found it offered good stability and balance. Alice is now confident on her tricycle and loves riding alongside her brothers. She’s also been able to join in with lots of other family activities as her Jorvik Tricycle has given her the extra support she needed on those long days out. They’ve recently visited Dalby Forest where Alice enjoys adventuring up the hills - although she is still slightly wary of picking up pace going downhill! Alice’s mum explained how this tricycle has been life-changing for Alice.

‘’Alice’s independence has blossomed since she’s had her tricycle, it’s been excellent! She’s been able to cycle round the village on her own, and has even got some compliments on the tricycle from locals!’’

As our Jorvik Tricycle community grows, we not only love hearing how our tricycles can support individuals with disabilities or mobility issues, but also how our tricycles can support families as a whole. You may or may not know that Jorvik Tricycles was born after James made it his mission to find a good quality tricycle for his father who was suffering with Parkinsons. This makes hearing stories, like Alice’s, about how Jorvik Tricycles have helped a family all that bit more special.
