One of our community’s favourite places to ride their adult tricycle is at the beach. The beach offers beautiful scenic views that are guaranteed to make your ride even more enjoyable! As we edge nearer to warmer weather, Jorvik Tricycles wanted to find the best UK beaches for cyclists to visit this Spring and Summer.

We have looked at search volumes to determine the UK's most popular beaches, and here are the results:

1. Bournemouth Beach, Dorset

(41,000 average monthly searches)

Famous for: One of the UK’s busiest beaches, attracting millions of visitors each year, tourists and residents alike.

Nearby cycle routes: As it gets so busy in the summer months, you aren’t allowed to cycle on the crowded promenade during peak hours. Alternatively, there are a variety of cycle routes that loop from the main beach area across the Sandbanks and over to Studland. From here you can cycle over to Corfe Castle, Blue Pool, Swanage Beach and Peveril Point.

2. Trecco Bay, Porthcawl

(33,000 average monthly searches)

Famous for: Home to the largest caravan park in Europe!

Nearby cycle routes: Porthcawl Cycle Route is a largely off-road route that runs from Trecco Bay to Rest Bay. The 2.5-mile route is an easy cycle and is suitable for all ages and abilities. Stop off at Coney Beach Funfair to visit some of the arcades, go on some of the park rides or pick up ice cream before carrying on to Rest Bay.

3. Lulworth Cove, Dorset

(30,000 average monthly searches)

Famous for: Picturesque white cliffs and clear blue waters.

Nearby cycle routes: Although Lulworth Cove itself isn’t exactly cycle-friendly, the nearby coastal and countryside areas are lovely areas to cycle around. The extended East Lulworth Cycle takes you along both countryside and coastal trails; through Holme, Coombe Keynes and past Lulworth Castle before heading down to the coast and back.

4. Brighton, East Sussex

(29,000 average monthly searches)

Famous for: Pebbly beaches and colourful beach huts as well as its vibrant city life.

Nearby cycle routes: Cycle lanes along the seafront are clearly marked, but if you want to explore more of Brighton and Hove use this interactive map to plot your route. The Dyke Railway Trail is a popular route for cyclists, walkers and runners alike. To get to the start of the railway trail there are quieter roads that you can take to avoid busier roads.

5. Robin Hoods Bay, North Yorkshire

(29,000 average monthly searches)

Famous for: Fishing and fossils.

Nearby cycle routes: The best cycle-friendly route in Robins Hood Bay is the Cinder Track. Taking you from Whitby to Robin Hoods Bay, this 21-mile popular off-road route is used by cyclists, walkers, runners and horse riders. This stunning coastal route has amazing views and stop-off points to reach secluded. Along the way, there is also access to local villages, landmarks, pubs and cafes.

6. West Wittering, West Sussex

(28,000 average monthly searches)

Famous for: Blue Flag beach which is dedicated to maintaining a clean and safe seaside environment for everyone to enjoy.

Nearby cycle routes: Salterns Way is a 12-mile cycle route that takes you from the centre of Chichester to West Wittering beach. From there you cycle over to East Head National Trust where there are sand dunes and salt marshes to explore.

7. Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear

(26,000 average monthly searches)

Famous for: Family-friendly beach with activities and amusements for everyone to enjoy.

Nearby cycle routes: Whitley Bay has a promenade that stretches for miles with designated cycle lanes for cyclists to use. Like most UK beaches during warmer months, it gets pretty busy so be aware of other beach-goers and cycle responsibly. For experienced cyclists, there are more challenging cycle routes that take you through the surrounding countryside and along the coastline:

Whitley Bay and Back Seaside Cycle

Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Trail

Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, Shiremoor and Hartley Circular

8. Herne Bay, Kent

(18,000 average monthly searches)

Famous for: Classic seaside town with a pier full of traditional fairground rides.

Nearby cycle routes: The Oyster Bay trail takes you along Kent’s coastline with Herne Bay situated halfway along the 13-kilometre route. This route is mainly along quieter or traffic-free roads and Herne itself has plenty of cycle paths and quiet residential paths. You’ll be able to cycle at ease as you enjoy the panoramic views of the Kent coastline. To make the day even better, stop off at some of the pubs and cafes along the way.

9. Kynance Cove, Cornwall

(18,000 average monthly searches)

Famous for: White sandy beaches and unique rock formations.

Nearby cycle routes: The Lizard and Kynance Cove Circular route is an 8.4 kilometre which starts at the most southern part of the Cornwall coastline and out to Kynance Cove. Although it is generally a relatively easy route, there are some more difficult parts to this cycle. The amazing views you’ll see along the way make it worth the challenge!

10. Formby Beach

(17,000 average monthly searches)

Famous for: Home to some of Europe’s best sand dunes.

Nearby cycle routes: The Squirrel Route is an 8-mile-long cycle route. It takes you from Southport to Formby along the coast. You’ll pass by several nature trails and through multiple nature reserves - Queen’s Jubilee Nature Trail, Ainsdale Sand Dunes Nature Reserve and Freshfield Dune Health Nature Reserve just to name a few!
