Over the past two years many people have changed the way they work with a huge number of people now working from home a couple of days a week. However, commuting is slowly but surely becoming an unavoidable part of our working routines again. Jorvik Tricycles have therefore investigated what is the cheapest and easiest way to get to work these days.

How expensive is it to cycle to work?

If you haven’t owned any kind of electric bike before you may wonder whether it’s worth the hassle of charging up the battery, or how much it costs to charge an electric bike.

Our electric tricycles cost approximately £0.17 to fully recharge. A full charge would take you around 46 miles, and cost less than 1p per mile.

What are the benefits of cycling to work?

  • Spending some of the first hours of your morning getting yourself worked up, sat in traffic or waiting for public transport is not setting you up for a good day. Make what is usually a stressful journey into work a more relaxing one. Cycling in the morning is a fantastic way to put yourself in a better and more positive mindset to start your day.
  • At the end of the day, the last thing you may feel like doing is cycling home, but hopping on your bike and riding home in the fresh air will help you de-stress and clear your mind after a long day at work. It’s the perfect way to ensure you’re not taking your work stress home.
  • Exercising in the morning has both physical and mental health benefits. Cycling to work is the perfect way for those who lead a busy life to get some exercise in, no more excuses! You’ll be reaping the benefits of that early release of happy hormones (dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin) throughout the day. It will give you the energy boost and focus you need to have a productive day.
  • Cycling to work doesn’t only benefit you financially, mentally and physically, but also helps reduce your impact on the environment. Research from Project Solar UK found that driving to work in a mid-size petrol car produces 5kg of carbon per journey. Over the year, this would add up to 1305kg of carbon emissions for just one car! Recognising bad habits and making small changes, such as using more sustainable modes of transport to get ourselves into work, can make a huge difference.
