How does an electric tricycle work?

Electric trikes are relatively easy to use, it may just take some practice. As the rider pedals, the e-trikes motor provides an extra boost of power to the wheels to make pedalling easier and reduce the effort required when cycling. For this reason electric trikes are a great option for those who struggle with mobility as it takes some of the strain off of your body while cycling.

There are varying levels of pedal assist, typically low, medium, and high, and the rider can choose the level of pedal assist they require. To maximise your electric trikes battery life, pedal assist should be used at the right time in your cycle. This means using low levels when riding on flat surfaces and increasing the level of pedal assistance when cycling up an incline. Jorvik Tricycle’s electric tricycles also have a throttle to be used as a walking aid, not to carry the rider on their journey. 

What are dual-battery electric tricycles?

With dual-battery tricycles, the batteries are used separately, not simultaneously. This means that with Jorvik Tricycles' selection of dual-battery e-trikes you have double the amount of battery life, allowing you to use the battery for twice as long and cycle twice as far. 

What is the difference between front hub and mid-drive electric tricycles? 

Electric trikes with front-hub motors are best for those who need more assistance when pedalling. Front-hub motors provide instant power to the pedals as you start cycling. Alternatively, mid-drive motors use more advanced technology to give electric tricycles a more natural feel while cycling. Mid-drive motors are more responsive, so the power output is dependent on the riders pedalling speed.

Are electric trikes street legal?

Our 250w electric adult trikes are classed as a bicycle so are allowed on the road. Electric trikes, and bikes, must have a power of no more than 250w. This means our 500 w models can only be used on private land.

How much is an electric trike?

Although electric tricycles may seem like an investment to begin with, it’s certainly worth it! Our Jorvik community love having the freedom to ride longer distances thanks to their electric trike’s, and many even swap out their cars for their electric tricycle when travelling locally. Their front and back storage options make them extremely versatile, you’re able to use them for a variety of activities. Electric trikes are perfect for leisurely rides, commuting, running errands or if you’re looking to get back in the saddle and start your journey to improve your fitness.
