On the 25th September 2020, James Walker, founder of Jorvik Tricycles will climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Parkinson's UK.

The 10-day trek to the top of the world's highest freestanding mountain will be the challenge of a lifetime. But nothing like the challenges faced by those suffering from Parkinson's disease, their friends, their family.

It's a cause close to our hearts and the hearts of too many others. Which is why we are asking you to donate. Knowing you are all behind James will mean the world to him.

For Dad.
A little over 25 years ago my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

He was a hardworking, self-employed man who enjoyed nothing more than having a beer in the pub and socialising with his friends.

The disease has obviously affected his life dramatically. From the early stages of mild tremors and moving to a warden care flat with the freedom to come and go as he pleased. To now needing full-time care in a care home.

Parkinson's is a degenerative disease that causes the brain to become progressively damaged over many years. There is no cure.

He's seen many specialists and tried new medicines and treatments over the years with varying degrees of success. But as with all sufferers of this disease, he continues to deteriorate every year.

The only thread of hope that keeps him fighting on is that one day there will be a cure.

The success of Jorvik Tricycles is a bittersweet one. As it's due to my father’s Parkinson's disease that I realised there was a gap in the market for people with limited mobility to rekindle their love of cycling with a tricycle. Though we now take great pleasure in supplying trikes around the world to people from all walks of life who may not have been able to enjoy cycling before.

Jorvik Tricycles have supported Parkinson's UK in the past and will always continue to do so. And if me climbing Kilimanjaro can speed up the process of finding a cure even a fraction, I'm willing to do it.
