Every journey starts with a simple question: How do I get there?

For many, the answer has traditionally been the car, not necessarily out of desire, but out of a need for convenience, stability and ease. However, as our urban landscapes evolve, the way we navigate them is shifting. More people than ever are discovering that three wheels offer a level of confidence and freedom that other modes of transport often can't.

For a tricycle rider, accessibility means more than just a painted line on the road. It means wide, segregated lanes, smooth surfaces, and a joined-up network that feels safe and accessible from start to finish. In 2026, several UK cities are leading the charge in making active travel truly inclusive.

Where Three Wheels Feel at Home

While many UK cities are improving, some have embraced a pivot to cycling more than others, creating environments where adult tricycles can thrive.

  • Cambridge: Long the gold standard for cycling in the UK, Cambridge remains favourite for those on two or three wheels. Its famously flat terrain removes the struggle of steep inclines, while its extensive network of ‘cycle-only’ paths provide the width and breathing room that tricycle frames, especially our rigid frame models, perfectly suit.
  • York: We might be a little biased, but our hometown of York is a perfect example of cycling accessibility in a city. With a long-standing culture of slow, steady travel and a commitment to modernising historic routes, it’s a city where a tricycle feels like a natural part of the scenery. The recent focus on the Movement and Place plan has seen more step-free access and wider junctions, making it easier than ever to navigate the city centre.
  • Milton Keynes: Designed with the ‘Redway’ system, Milton Keynes is a hidden gem for tricycling. These dedicated, high-quality paths are physically separated from the main grid roads, so you can travel across the city without worrying about heavy traffic, making them great for building confidence.
  • London: The capital’s transformation into accessibility has been remarkable. With the expansion of Cycle Superhighways and low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs), riders in inner London now have access to some of the widest protected lanes in the country. This extra width is essential for the slightly larger footprint of a tricycle, ensuring you never feel ‘squeezed’ by other commuters.

The Power of Electric Assistance

In cities like Bristol or Edinburgh, the landscape can be a bit more challenging. While these cities have fantastic cycling cultures, their hills can be daunting. This is where electric assistance changes the game.

An electric tricycle levels the playing field, allowing you to cruise up inclines with minimal effort. Whether you’re navigating the climbs of the West End or the hills of the South Coast, the combination of three-wheeled stability and a smooth motor means that geography is no longer a barrier to independence.

A Glimpse Across the Channel

While the UK is making great strides, we often look to our European neighbours for a glimpse of the future. Cities like Copenhagen and, of course, cities across the Netherlands, such as Utrecht and Amsterdam, have set the global benchmark, where tricycles (including cargo trikes) are as common as cars. In Paris, a rapid green revolution has seen nearly half of the city’s major roads gain protected cycle infrastructure in just a few years. These cities prove that when you prioritise people over cars, the entire community becomes quieter, cleaner, and more connected.

Finding Your Perfect Path

Choosing a tricycle is about more than just a mode of transport; it’s about reclaiming the joy of being outdoors and moving at your own pace. Whether you need a folding electric tricycle to tuck away in a flat or a rigid frame for maximum stability on long weekend adventures, the right infrastructure makes all the difference.

As our cities continue to grow and adapt, we believe that everyone, regardless of balance or mobility, deserves a seat at the table… or a seat on the trike.
