William’s Story: 5 Years of Tricycling Pleasure
Every time a customer buys their first tricycle, we can only imagine the adventures that they’ll get up to as they embrace life on three wheels. Every now and then, we’re lucky enough to hear from one of our community members, checking in and give us the lowdown.
That’s why we were thrilled when an email from William appeared in our inbox. William purchased a JMT3 from us in March 2021, his first adult tricycle and to say it’s been a life-changer would be an understatement.
The perfect solution for getting about
When William came to us, he was no longer driving a car and needed a solution for getting about. This kind of story is incredibly familiar to us – and something we specialise in helping with!
In William’s words, “It’s now 5 years since I purchased my big red JMT3 and it has given me enormous pleasure, as well as mobility in my eighties and no longer a car driver.”
To say William’s electric tricycle has helped him get about would be an understatement, as of April 2026, William had covered 3,244 miles on his Jorvik Tricycle! Much of that riding was around Eastleigh, Fair Oak and Bishopstoke, areas that William describes as “very cycle friendly”.
A true head turner
We’re used to seeing our electric tricycles every day, so can often take for granted what an impression they make when they’re ‘out in the wild’. William also added that, “the Tricycle is often a talking point with passers-by when parking at the local shops. These are just two of the many compliments I’ve overheard as I ride around the local streets and trails…

William’s top tricycle riding tips
We always have plenty of advice to give our community of tricycle riders and those who are taking to the saddle for the first time – but there’s something a little different about the advice of one of our customers, someone who has 3,000 miles under their belt and countless adventures. William was kind enough to share some of his top tips and we thought it’d be a shame to not share them.
1. Get a regular, annual service!
William has an annual check with his local bicycle technician. As he covers a lot of miles on his tricycle, having a service has enabled it to stay in great, roadworthy condition at all times. In the same way you would at a car service, he’s had various parts, such as the tyres and brake pads, replaced and kept his JMT3 in tip-top condition.
2. Fit toe straps to the pedals
Pedals with toe clips can be a game changer for many riders, keeping the foot more securely in contact with the pedalling and allowing contact and power to be applied throughout 360 degrees of the rotation. William says they’ve have become an essential to him.
3. A good mirror on the handlebar helps
Being able to see behind you, especially in reverse mode, is a great help for any rider. Having the ability to see in all directions is always going to make for a safer ride. We stock a couple of options in our range of accessories.
4. The head and taillights keep you visible
Every single Jorvik has a set of headlights and taillights fitted and it’s good to hear that William has found them to be particularly useful in keeping him visible to other road users when he’s out and about.
William’s future on 3 wheels
Based in Eastleigh, little did William know that we’d open our Southampton showroom on his doorstep 4 years later!
