Getting older doesn't mean slowing down. It means being a bit more intentional about how you move, what you eat, and how you spend your time. The good news? Small, consistent habits make a bigger difference than you might think.

Eat well, move better

Nutrition and exercise are two sides of the same coin. As we age, muscle mass naturally declines – so protein becomes more important, not less. Meat, poultry, eggs, nuts and seeds all help the body repair and maintain muscle tissue. If your diet makes it tricky to hit the right levels, supplements can fill the gap. Vitamin D, Vitamin B12 and Calcium are all worth looking at for over 60s.

Get outside

The NHS recommends that older adults do some form of physical activity every day, and ideally, some of that should happen outdoors. Fresh air, movement and a change of scenery do more for your mental health than most people give them credit for.

If balance has become an issue, as it does for many people over 60, a conventional bike can start to feel more daunting than it's worth. An adult tricycle solves that. Three wheels mean stability, and stability means confidence. You can ride at your own pace, on your own terms, without worrying about losing your footing.

Not sure where to start? Browse the full Jorvik range to find the right trike for your needs, or book a free test ride at our York or Southampton showroom and try before you buy.

Take it anywhere

One of the most practical things about a Jorvik tricycle is that it doesn't have to stay at home. Our Explore tricycles are our most compact tricycles, designed to fold down to fit in the boot of most cars. This means longer trips, new routes and spontaneous days out are always an option. Wherever you're headed, your trike can come with you.

Stay connected

Isolation is one of the most underestimated health risks as we get older, particularly after retirement. It doesn't take much to counter it – a ride to the local shop, a morning coffee with a friend, a regular route that takes you past people. Tricycle ownership has a way of quietly building those moments into your week.

Take Carol, who used her Jorvik trike to rebuild her confidence and independence after a traumatic brain injury. Read her story here.

Protect your brain health

Research suggests that cycling can help reduce the risk of dementia, and a tricycle offers all the same cognitive benefits as a standard bike, with added stability for those who need it. Staying active, staying social and staying outdoors is one of the most effective things you can do for long-term brain health.
